Rainy Days Don’t Keep Us Inside
It’s easy to think rainy days mean staying indoors, but they often turn into some of the most memorable moments in childhood! We’re treating rainy days like snow days from here on out — an invitation for new adventures! With a bit of rain gear and a willingness to get wet, there’s a world waiting to be discovered that’s completely different from sunny days. Watching my kids splash in puddles, play in the mud, and climb rain-soaked trees, reminds me of my own childhood.
For our rainy adventure, we packed a few essentials: pots and pans for creative play, Fairy Crystals to add a touch of magic, and towels to dry off after the fun. These small things spark imagination, and show my kids how to see the world in new, exciting ways. There’s something about getting wet that makes them laugh louder and run a little freer. The rain isn’t an inconvenience — it’s part of the fun!
So next time rain is in the forecast, gear up the kids and head to your local park. Let them stomp in puddles, splash in creeks, and search for hidden treasures. Rainy days don’t have to be spent inside—they can become the adventures your family looks back on the most!
Rainy Day Adventure Details
The Adventure: We saw the forecast was rainy all day and decided to visit a nature park. Any nearby park or forest is perfect for this kind of adventure! Make sure to dress them in rain gear and bring an extra pair of clothes for the ride home! If you’re local to Nashville, visit Warner Park Nature Center - there is a nature park, creeks to play in, a nature center to visit and a ton of fun hiking trails!
The Creative Moment: In my opinion, open-ended play is the best kind of play! We packed up our collection of second-hand play pots and pans, along with our forever favorite Fairy Crystals. These simple items sparked the kids' imaginations as they played in the mud, made fairy soups, and mined for crystals in the creek— really adding a sense of excitement and magic to their playtime.
The Activity: One of our favorite structured activities with Fairy Crystals is hiding them for the kids to find! We scattered them around the park—under rocks, between branches, and on top of logs. It’s a simple game they never get tired of, and it keeps their creativity alive, even in the rain. For the trickier ones to find, we added a fun twist by playing a game of ‘hot and cold’ to guide them to each hidden crystal!
